How to manage time effectively

Time is a priceless commodity and in today’s busy life, everyone is short of time. Amid this, it becomes increasingly important to manage your time well to get maximum output, more so for entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses. Alas! There are not more than 24 hours in a day but you can manage those hours with focus and following few simple tips.

1) Fix your goal

The most important time saving technique is to know beforehand what you want to focus on. It keeps you single mindedly focused on that goal and you tend to ignore other non-important things which try to lure you away. For businessmen, activities which will increase their profit and grow their business are the main target areas.

2) Prioritize wisely

The golden rule of time management is to do most important tasks first which can’t be put off for tomorrow. Categorize tasks to be done as per their importance and check off the task from your list once it’s done. It will motivate you to accomplish more.

3) Follow a proper sleep pattern

Many a times, we sacrifice sleep to be more productive and get more things done but it inadvertently plays havoc with our sleep pattern. A sound sleep of 7-8 hours is must for our bodies and mind to function properly. An alert mind is a high-functioning mind and one that’s less tolerant of time-wasting activities.

4) Avoid Multitasking

A common misconception among many is that multitasking helps to get more things done in less time. But it’s the exact opposite. By doing multiple things at the same time, our attention gets divided and it makes us less productive. As you are not giving your full attention to any single task, it will take more time to get things done. Focus on one work at a time and after its completion, move on to the next.

5) Most important, get rid of distractions

Working with distracting sites like Facebook and Twitter active in the background decreases your productivity. Smartphones are useful but they are also a big distraction. Either turn off your phone or keep it out of range to focus on the work at hand.
